A Friday arvo on the course, for a good cause.

We are bringing the Edithvale community together for an afternoon of golf, laughs and a few friendly rivalries. Parents, grandparents, friends and neighbours are all welcome. You do not need to be good. You do need a partner, a team name and, ideally, an outfit that makes the kids cringe.

Entry fees and sponsorship raise money for the school, and the whole day runs through Golf Break, so scoring and the on-course challenges are all sorted for you.

How it works

six steps to glory (or the barbecue)
  1. 1Find your partner.

Two-player Ambrose means you play as a pair, so grab a mate from the school gate, the street or the footy club.

  2. 2Name your team and pick your outfit.

Matching attire is not compulsory, but it is very much encouraged and judged.

  3. 3Register and pay.

Fill in the form, then transfer $60 per player using your team name as the bank reference.

  4. 4Turn up for your wave.

Shotgun starts at 3:00 pm or 4:30 pm. Everyone tees off together.

  5. 5Play the challenges.

Random challenges and the Golf Break hole keep every player on their toes.

  6. 6Barbecue and awards.

Wind up the afternoon with a sausage, a drink and some very serious trophies.

Ambrose in one lineBoth players tee off, you pick the better shot, and you both play from there. Repeat until the ball goes in. Nobody carries the team alone.

Fair for a 2. Fair for a 32.

Most golf days are won by the two best golfers in the field. Not this one. Golf Break's Fair Play Engine balances every challenge, so the player who plays off 4 and the one who has not swung a club since 2009 are in the same race.

Built for Ambrose day
  • Team handicaps for every pair, worked out for you.
  • A live team leaderboard on the clubhouse TV while the sausages cook.
  • The Golf Break hole: a random club is picked for you, and you play it.
  • Scores, challenges and results in one app, so nobody keeps a pencil card.
  • It only adjusts game points. It never touches anyone's official handicap.
How the Fair Play Engine works →
1Random for everyone

A dare, a challenge, a blessing or a curse. Nobody picks their card, so anyone can get anything.

2Reworded for your game

The app rewords each challenge for your handicap. A single-figure golfer has to shape it. A beginner just has to get it airborne and in play.

3Points that scale

Easy cards pay less for good golfers and hard cards pay more for beginners. No card pays less than half or more than one and a half times its base, so no single card swings the day.

4The Equaliser

Curses lean on the low markers, blessings on the high ones, and nobody gets cursed three holes running.

5No sandbagging

Handicaps are locked before the shotgun. No handicap? You play off 18. A failed card scores 0, and nobody ever loses points.

6It shows its working

Tap "Why this score?" on any total. No black boxes, no clubhouse arguments.

Good golf, better school.

The best thing about a school community is the people in it. This day gives the Edithvale community a reason to get together, meet each other and have a laugh, and sponsorship and entry fees help back the school our kids go to. Come for the golf. Stay for the sausage sizzle.

Put your name on a hole.

Local businesses and families can sponsor a hole or the event for $500, get a mention on this site and have their name on the course on the day.
